FAQS: For employees

During fall term 2020, the LBCC Library building is closed, but you can still access our services and collections. Learn more on our COVID-19/ Remote Services page.

1. Can I check out a book?

The Library is working with the Campus Store to offer pickups of books and other circulating materials at the Campus Store's loading dock on the Albany Campus.

Place a hold on the resource from your library account, and you will receive an email with further instructions about the pickup times and location. If you would like assistance with this process, please contact the Reference Desk at (541) 917-4645 or libref@linnbenton.edu.

2. Can I use Library databases from home?

All of our articles, ebooks, streaming videos, and other databases are available on and off campus.  If you are on campus, you will need to log in using your LBCC ID and your year of birth.

Whether you are researching on or off campus, be sure to start your search from links on the Library's Web site to avoid paywalls.

If you have any questions about accessing databases from off campus, call the library at 541-917-4645 or email us at libref@linnbenton.edu.

3. How can I get the full-text of an article?

  • Go to All Magazines, Newspapers, and Journals and search for the title of the periodical (newspaper, magazine, or journal) in which the article appears. If we provide access to that periodical, the title should appear at or near the top of the results list.
  • Click on the periodical title to see which issues/dates are included in our databases.
  • Click on one of the databases that includes the date your article was published.
  • Scroll down to find the correct date and article. You may need to select from a drop-down menu or expand a menu by clicking a plus sign (+).
  • Alternatively, type the article title in the Search within Publication box.
  • If you do not see the periodical or correct date/issue listed, follow the instructions to request the article through interlibrary loan.

4. How do I find a peer-reviewed journal article?

icon for Academic JournalThere are several ways to find and access a peer-reviewed journal article. One of the easiest ways is to search the Library's Academic Search Premier database. On the results list for your search, look for the Academic Journal icon. Most articles (reviews and letters to the editor are the exceptions) in Academic Journals have to be reviewed by the author/s' peers in the discipline before they are published.

5. How do I make an appointment with a librarian?

You can make an appointment with a librarian by calling (541) 917-4645 or emailing us at libref@linnbenton.edu.

However, the easiest way to meet with a librarian is to visit us during drop-in hours! Librarians staff the Reference/Information deskon the Albany campus (that's the desk furthest away from the front door) Monday--Friday 9 am to 5 pm, and Saturday/Sunday 11 am to 4 pm. You will meet a libriarian and get the same service as you would in an appointment. If visiting during the summer or between terms, check our website for hours.

If closer to Lebanon, you can visit our library branch that is located in the Healthcare Occupations Center building (next door to the medical school) Monday--Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, with appointments unavailable between 12 pm and 1 pm.

We look forward to working with you!

6. When are my books due?
